14 quarts of Castrol Edge Professional LL03 5W-30 - OEM number G0521951L
Torx T-20 and T-30
Spline drive bits 10mm and 12mm
Oil Filter - OEM number 07M115561
Remove the center shroud panel to expose the bottom of the engine. There are 16 T-30 and 2 T-20 Torx screws in the panel.
Open and drain the three 10mm spline drive oil drain plugs on the engine labeled 1, 2, and 3. Plugs labeled A, B, and C are not used and should remain in place. Tighten to 23 Nm.
Drain plug #3 has a support bar blocking access to it. You will need to move the bar out of the way to access the plug. It is not necessary to remove the bar completely, you need to only move it by removing 3 of the T-30 Torx screws. The screw used to mount the flexible hose to the support bar can remain in place. The screw on the driver’s side which holds the bar to the main frame needs to be loosened. Remove the other 3 screws. You can then move the bar out of your way then move it back into place when you are finished with that drain plug.
The oil tank Drain plug is at the rear of the of the car as shown here with the arrow pointing to it. Remove it using a 12mm Spline drive bit. Tighten to 40 Nm.
Remove the oil filter. Rub oil on the new filter's seal and fill it with oil. Tighten to 12Nm.
Fill oil tank until you get a full reading on the dip stick. I was able to get a total of 10 quarts in at this point. Which includes the oil poured into the filter.
Start the engine for 1 minute to get the oil flowing into the engine. Keep an eye on the oil pressure.
Add 3-4 quarts. Make sure you are getting a reading on the dip stick. Take the car for a short drive to warm it up. Check the oil after the warm up. I suggest checking the oil the next few times the car is driven to be sure the oil level is perfect. In the end, I was able to get 13.5 quarts into the car.
Points of interest
Oil – Engine holds 3.43 gallons. The recommended oil is a dealer only item. It is available at these new car dealers in North America. Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mazda, Volkswagen, and Volvo. I found it for $9.15 per quart. Your owner’s manual may show the required oil to be Castrol SLX Professional. Castrol SLX Professional has been rebranded as Castrol Edge Professional.
Removing the underneath shroud panel – Remove all screws except for the 2 furthest to the rear of the car. Those 2 should be loosened but, not removed. You can then flex the panel until the front lip comes out of place then slide the panel forward out of the 2 rear screw slots.
